Interview

What is your inspiration?

Nature inspires me. But I’m also inspired by people who are faithful to their beliefs, against trends and peer pressure. The most important thing is not to pretend to be someone you are not, just be yourself.

What music do you listen to/are you influenced by?

I listen to so many different kinds of music that it’s hard to answer. Not to write too much, it’s usually ambient music (e.g. Ishq / Alio Die) or progressive rock (e.g. Porcupine Tree)

What are you bringing to Bohemia?

Good question, the question is what will I take away ;) (laughs) But I’m counting down the days until my arrival, it will be my first festival this year.

Have you ever been here?

I’ve been to festivals / club events several times: Ufo Bufo, Bionysie or Tribe Calling. I’ve also been a few times as a tourist or in connection with my work. You have a really beautiful country, although I haven’t seen many places yet. I was especially captivated by the Czech-German-Polish borderland, the České Švýcarsko National Park, rock towns, and the Elbe river basin. Like in a fairy tale.

How do you see Czech psychedelic/psytrance scene compare to others?

I really like the relaxed atmosphere at Czech festivals. Two or even three generations of people at one festival. This proves that it is more than just music. And they usually take place in beautiful natural surroundings. In Poland, with few exceptions, it looked worse for many years. But for about a decade, many successful initiatives have appeared, such as Uroczysko, or earlier Egodrop/Goadupa Festival. There are also many smaller outdoor events, especially in the north of Poland. In our country, there is also a trend to organize psytrance stages at festivals with widely understood dance electronic music. A good example here are: LAS Festival or Summer Contrast Festival. I do not know how it looks in the Czech Republic, but I think that this phenomenon is not only in Poland.

Your favourite festival?

It’s hard to say, I’ve been to so many great festivals. I remember with nostalgia the first edition of S.U.N. Festival 2013 in Hungary, which was supposed to be an alternative to Ozora. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, but the lineup and atmosphere were fantastic then and we were young too ;) The festival I grew up on was also great – Goadupa Festival, first in Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska, near Krakow, (2010-2013) then (when it grew) in the beautiful mountains – Bieszczady (2015-2017). Currently, among Polish festivals, I can recommend Uroczysko, in south-western Poland.

What was your best gig ever?

Still ahead of me! :)

How did you come to your artist/stage name?

Why Abyss? One of the first compilations that got me into trance music was The Abyss (A Journey Into Deep Trance). It is also related to my surname – Satan. This character lives in the abyss ;)

Your favourite synthetisers? Can you briefly describe how do you produce your music?

I don’t produce my own music, many years ago I tried, but in the end I focused on being a DJ.

What is your relationship to the fire?

I love fire, looking at flames. In my opinion, it is somewhere deep in each of us, but not everyone has had the opportunity to find out about it. I have to mention my professional work is related to fire (I’m not a fireman, hehe)

What do you consider to be the greatest success of yours?

Still ahead of me! :) But I am glad that after several years on the stage I still enjoy what I do.

What did the psytrance/psychedelic culture give you?

More openness and understanding for the reality that surrounds me. What everyday life doesn’t give you much. Good music, lots of friendships, communing with nature.

What do you do to have some fun/ how do you relax?

If you’re asking about the time for the festival – I’m not a fan of drugs, music itself is a drug, you can’t have too many addictions, I chose this one, which is music. It is best to relax in the bosom of nature, so time at the festival is a good combination of entertainment and relaxation. Outside of the festival, cycling in the forest relaxes me, preferably with good music in headphones. I also enjoy the company of some people.

How do you imagine perfect Saturday morning on the festival?

A sunny day with a little fluffy clouds, a gentle breeze and the main stage full of colorful, smiling, dancing people :)

Beer or wine?

Craft beer, but not too much :)
